Recommended Certificates for Working with CMI

There are several certificates that are important for entry-level construction workers in Alberta. The most important ones for CMI's service work include:


(REQUIRED) Construction Safety Training System (CSTS): This is a general safety course that covers the basics of workplace safety in the construction industry. It is often required for entry-level construction jobs in Alberta.


(REQUIRED) Fall Protection: This certification is required for any worker who may be working at heights. It covers the safe use of fall protection equipment and techniques.


(REQUIRED) WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System): This certification covers the safe handling and use of hazardous materials in the workplace.


(RECOMMENDED) First Aid and CPR: This certification covers basic first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills, which can be important in the event of an accident or injury on the job.


(RECOMMENDED) Forklift Operator: This certification is required for workers who will be operating a forklift on the job. It covers the safe operation and maintenance of forklifts.


(REQUIRED) Aerial Work Platform (AWP) or Scissorlift Operator certificate is also an important certification for entry-level construction workers in Alberta.This certification is required for workers who will be operating an AWP or scissorlift on the job. It covers the safe operation and maintenance of this type of equipment, including pre-operation inspections, proper use of fall protection, and safe work practices while working at height.


These certificates can often be obtained through online and in-class training programs offered by industry associations, unions, or private training organizations.
